Infection/Abscess in Tooth

A tooth infection needs your immediate attention. Common symptoms are a severe and persistent throbbing, increased sensitivity to hot and cold temperatures and swelling of your face, neck or cheek. These are symptoms of a possible abscessed tooth. Call Lincolnway Dental promptly for same day diagnosis and treatment by experienced dentists who will carefully treat the infection.

An abscess can form at the tip of the root or in the gums next to a tooth root. It generally starts with a cavity or trauma that extends into the tooth’s nerve chamber. The pulp (or nerve) and its root are integrated with your body’s bloodstream.

We don’t want the infection to get that far and affect other parts of your body’s system. During your visit a thorough examination of your mouth and x-rays will be taken to show the degree of decay, infection and possible bone loss. Our Lincolnway Dental team will explain how the health of your mouth can affect and reflect your overall health.

During consultation, any questions will be answered and options to preserve the tooth such as endodontic therapy, placement of an all ceramic crown or other restoration may be recommended. If the tooth can’t be preserved, extraction may be necessary. A sensible plan for continuing good dental health will be personalized specifically for you. We look forward to your visit!

Studies have shown that dental problems because of an infection of the tip of the tooth's root, called a periapical abscess, account for hundreds of thousands of emergency room visits each year.
